Golden/Χρυσ@ is a solo performance by Petros Konnaris companioned by a video poem/text by Evagoras Vanezis and the soundscore of Panos Bartzis.
During this solo, the performer starts by sitting on his knees, fully covered in gold body paint, wearing a pearl necklace. He goes through a ritual of empowerment using breath as a starting point and moments from Nijinsky’s infamous ballet “The afternoon of a faun”. Following a repetitive action created in the moment, and a sensitive, vibrating energy, he transfers from the sitting position into an extended, arched pigeon position, and then into standing and facing the audience.
The text presented to the back of the stage supports the atmosphere, offering different entry points to the movement journey. It is inspired from queer theory, dance history, challenging notions of identity and belongingness and who the text is addressed to.
The piece questions topics of value both in the performance/dance scene as well as in the personal and social environment. Asking what is precious, what is valuable and how to deconstruct these topics to become more inclusive, supportive, and brave. A gentle, moving journey to empowerment.
